- 2.0 out of 5 stars from W. J. Kibler -- Forced myself through this book : I found this story unconvincing and not believable in its attempt to redeem one MC's actions towards the other MC. Lucas physically and mentally assaulted Tyler routinely for over 4 years of middle and high school. We're not talking about teasing and pranks. We're talking seriously assaulted him. And we are to believe that Tyler ever wants to have anything to do with Lucas again? Forgiveness is one thing, but to fall in love with your abuser and have a HEA? Not believable. Someone who is that physically and emotionally abusive (Lucus) AND someone being that abused (Tyler) as young men would require lots of psychological therapy to overcome their demons. None was explained in this story. There was so much that didn't ring true in this book. If Lucas was so abused as a child, why weren't the authorities called in? There would have been physical signs of the abuse and teachers/pastors/neighbors should have noticed. Lucas's mother's actions in regards to her son's abuse were heinous She didn't provide protection as a parent should have and then blames the child. (We later learn some of the reason why, but the mother's tears fell on my deaf ears after so long of a wait to reveal her reasoning.) There were also technical issues with this story. There were many punctuation and grammatical errors, as well as two chapters in the incorrect order. (Chapters 16 and 17) This causes much confusion for the reader as events are out of time and throws the story off. You have to re-read those chapters in the proper order to understand the actions of the characters. Overall, the tropes of the "ugly duckling becoming a swan" and the "misunderstood bad boy becoming a good guy", with the addition of "Bad/good guy having a life-threatening illness which reunites the doomed couple" just didn't fly with me. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from StephiBon -- Brilliant rollercoaster read : This was a very gripping read with lots of lovely moments and heart breaking moments too. Both Tyler and Lukas have traumatic pasts and although this is an enemies to lovers story, there is just so much more going on as the author takes us on the rollercoaster journey that is their lives. . This is the first book I have read from this author and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
